Family Community Leadership Training Workshop
Family Community Leadership Workshops have generated countless community investors who have served as peer trainers, board and committee members, advocates or local leaders.
Graduates advocated for citizen participation on city committees and boards; affordable housing; and Arizona’s Criminal Nuisance Abatement law A sampling of workshop graduates’ efforts include:
- Advocated for addition of fluoride in Mesa’s water http://www.sonic.net/kryptox/press/news99.htm
- Neighborhood associations and projects
- Community strategic plan for health, wellness, education and economic development
- Community asset map and survey (PDF)
- Removal of a lead contaminated Watertower (EPA standards are 5.0 milligrams per liter, some paint chips measured at 1440 milligrams per liter)
- Community input was gathered and voter approval (as required by the City Charter) was gained for Mesa’s housing code
- City of Mesa Clean Sweep Program;
- Community input was gathered and voter approval was gained for recognition of the Central Broadway Corridor as a Sub-Area in Mesa’s 2025 General Plan
- Community input was gathered and included in Mesa’s 2025 General Plan
- Central Broadway Corridor Charrette (PDF)
- Mesa Citizen on Patrol Program
- City Council District representation (previously, all City Council members lived within a one mile radius of each other)
- Requirement for Mesa United Way funded agencies involvement with local community groups
